English 3 (11th Grade) (Period 5-7)

Course Description

The English 3 course will continue to prepare students for college-level skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills as outlined in the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. This course will broaden students' perspectives as we deal with literature from various sources to assist them in becoming culturally, technologically, and academically literate citizens within their communities. Furthermore, by interacting with classic, modern, and contemporary works, students can develop their perspectives of the world in which they live and apply them to their daily lives. This course's expectations will be high quality and quantity as students meet and exceed state standards. There will be a strong emphasis on literary analysis and building rhetorical skills to prepare students for the CAASP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) and courses in their 12th-grade year.
